KIŠIB.Vocabs are a suite of controlled vocabularies developed for the standardised description and annotation of ancient West Asian seals and sealings. They provide systematic terminology for various aspects of seal research, enabling consistent documentation across the KIŠIB corpus of approximately 80,000 artefacts.
All vocabularies are developed according to SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organisation System) standards. Each concept includes a preferred English term, multilingual alternative appellations, a formal definition following the genus-differentia principle, and mappings to established authority files such as the Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT), Iconclass, and Wikidata.
The hierarchical structure of the vocabularies reflects semantic relationships between concepts, organised into thematic concept schemes. This structure supports both human browsing and machine-readable linked data applications, making the vocabularies interoperable with other digital humanities resources.
